About the role
Wert is a web3 fintech startup that provides fiat-to-crypto payment infrastructure for non-custodial projects. We are looking for a strong Backend Engineer to join our OnDuty team.
In this role, you will work at the intersection of engineering reliability, incident response, and product improvement. You will help investigate and resolve production issues, improve the stability of our core services, build internal tools and automations, and contribute to backend improvements that make our systems more resilient and easier to operate.
We are looking for someone who is comfortable taking ownership, making decisions, and working in a fast-moving environment. This is a hands-on role for an engineer who enjoys solving real operational problems, digging into complex systems, and driving improvements that have direct impact on both users and internal teams.
You will work closely with engineers, support, and other stakeholders across the company, while collaborating with teammates in Tallinn, Lisbon, or remotely. Our tech stack includes Go, AWS, Redis, PostgreSQL, and Docker/Kubernetes.
What you might work on
Investigate and resolve production issues across backend services and integrations
Improve the reliability, observability, and maintainability of existing systems
Participate in the team’s on-call rotation, including occasional night and weekend incident response
Build internal tools and automations that reduce manual operational work
Contribute to backend features and technical improvements that strengthen platform stability
Refine monitoring, alerting, and incident response processes
Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices
Work closely with engineers, support, and other stakeholders to identify root causes and deliver long-term fixes
Requirements
Strong proficiency in Go and solid understanding of the Go ecosystem
5+ years of backend engineering experience in production environments
Experience working with complex backend systems and understanding how engineering processes operate inside growing companies
Readiness to participate in an on-call rotation and handle production incidents when needed
Good understanding of debugging, monitoring, and troubleshooting distributed services
Experience with relational and key-value databases
Experience integrating with external APIs or third-party services
Ability to write clean, maintainable, and pragmatic code applying the principles of SOLID, DRY, KISS
Strong analytical skills and ability to make decisions in ambiguous situations
Ownership mindset and readiness to take responsibility for systems in production
Nice to have experiences:
Experience with incident management, observability, or reliability engineering practices
Experience with AWS, Redis, PostgreSQL, Docker, and Kubernetes
Experience in FinTech, payment systems, or other high-reliability environments
Experience with message brokers and asynchronous architectures
Familiarity with blockchain, smart contracts or crypto-related products
Understanding of security best practices and sensitive data handling
Experience improving legacy code or operationally complex systems
Fluent English and Russian
What we offer:
Compelling project at the intersection of payments and blockchain
28 days paid annual leave
Challenging tasks
Room to grow
Global customer base
Flat organisation with no bureaucracy
A product trusted by emerging startups across Web3
A lot of quick feedback, no out-of-thin-air assumptions and tedious idea validations
Small result-driven and dedicated team
We’re a remote-first company that started operations decentralised so we accept candidates from across Europe. Still, we’ve got a lovely office in Lisbon, Portugal and will welcome you there. Send us your cover letter and GitHub examples to hireme@wert.io.
