As we prepare for our planned expansion into Costa Rica, we are building a strong foundation for future growth. This role, based in San José and hired through our Employer of Record partner, is part of the preparatory phase supporting this exciting next chapter.
About the role
We are seeking a Legal Manager to join our Costa Rica team. This role will focus on contract management and execution, ensuring agreements are drafted, negotiated, signed, and tracked efficiently. You will also support compliance with Costa Rica’s free trade zone requirements and assist with HR-related matters in Costa Rica and the U.S.
This is a new and exciting hands-on, operational role where you will own the end-to-end contract lifecycle and act as a bridge between our Costa Rica office, U.S. operations, and the global Legal & Compliance team based in Barcelona, Spain. Arbolus serves clients globally.
Key responsibilities you will be in charge of
Contracts Management & Execution (ESSENTIAL)
- Own the global contract lifecycle: intake, drafting, review, negotiation support, approval, signature, storage, and renewals.
- Coordinate with the Data Privacy and Operational Compliance teams where necessary.
- Maintain and update contract templates, playbooks, and approval workflows.
- Track contractual obligations and deadlines, ensuring internal teams meet requirements.
- Proficiency using Hubspot, PandaDoc (or similar software).
- Support business teams in partnership agreements, vendor contracts, and client services agreements.
Compliance & Operational Support (HIGHLY DESIRABLE)
- Ensure compliance with Costa Rica free trade zone regulations and other local requirements.
- Coordinate with external advisors where specialist input is required.
- Support the global Legal & Compliance team in implementing internal policies and procedures.
HR Support (HIGHLY DESIRABLE)
- Prepare and review employment agreements and HR documents for the Costa Rica office.
- Be the main responsible for all HR onboarding and offboarding-related tasks.
- Assist the global HR team with employment contracts and policy updates in Costa Rica and the U.S.
- Act as the local point of contact for all HR related matters in North America.
- Work with external counsel for complex employment law queries.
Collaboration & Communication (ESSENTIAL)
- Act as the local first point of contact for contract and compliance queries.
- Provide clear updates to business stakeholders on contract status and legal processes.
- Escalate high-risk or complex matters to the VP of Legal & Compliance.
Requirements to succeed in this role
- Bachelor’s degree in Law, Business Administration, or related field.
- 3–6 years of experience in contract management, legal operations, or corporate legal support.
- Strong background in contract drafting and contract lifecycle management.
- Knowledge of the Costa Rican legal framework (free trade zone regulations preferred).
- Familiarity with HR/employment law processes in Costa Rica; U.S. exposure a plus.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Fluency in Spanish and English (written and spoken).
- Comfortable working across time zones with international teams.
